Simple Acts of Care

Simple Acts of Care

In times of crisis, people feel a strong desire to feel cared for and loved. Why? Well, things such as anxiety and stress can take over our minds and make us feel fearful and isolated. Therefore we should honor that desire and act on those thoughts to do good for ourselves and others. We have a gathered a few simple acts of care that will help you and your community feel in control and at peace:

Disconnect yourself from the media and live in the present:

Consider turning off automatic notifications and taking breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Constantly watching the news for updates and social media feeds can intensify feelings of worry and distress. Taking time to breathe and living in the present with your loved ones, will allow you to focus on your life and actions over which you have control, instead of wondering ‘what if?’.

Indulge in your hobbies:

Taking up a hobby is a great way to decrease anxiety and stress. It gives you something enjoyable and relaxing to focus on while taking your mind off negative situations that might be happening around you. Pleasurable activities such as painting, gardening and reading, can be a good way to calm down an overactive mind and lower the feeling of panic.

Make time to enjoy a fresh cup coffee or tea:

A simple act like making a cup of tea or coffee for yourself can be the perfect way to start your day with a sense of tranquility and harmony.

Spread love

It is most likely that your family and friends are experiencing the same amount of worry and fear that you are, as well. Therefore it is always appreciated when words of reassurance and positive energy are shared. Sending a text message or calling your loved ones will also make you feel less confined.

If you are able, donate resources:

Donating things such as groceries, clothes and medicine to those in need can really help communities that need it. It is a way of showing solidarity, love and appreciation to people who might feel alone and isolated.

These acts of care don’t need to be huge to have a meaningful impact on our minds and bodies. When we are all feeling at odds and fearful with what is happening around us, it is those simple efforts to show love and care that will make the difference.
